Description: This was an exceptionally personal song for me to write and countless tears are still being spilt over it. This is my journey with Pearl, my first pet rat. She helped me get passed some past trauma which had me terrified to pick up an animal for fear of hurting it. We brought her and her sisters home, she was the first one to willingly accept food from my hands. I had to chase her down and pick her up when she fell out of her cage. She loved being the center of our attention and got jealous when it was given to her sisters. She was my rat. She even got out of her cage one night and made her way to our bed and climbed up onto my side of the bed even though it was farthest from the door. We had to give her her own smaller cage when she refused to get along with her sisters anymore. She hated it when Chase fixed up her cage to make sure she couldn't get out anymore. .... and then she developed a tumor. And we made the tough choice to have her put down when she could no longer move properly. Chase handed her over to the vet while I could do nothing but stand by and cry. I still miss her. As of present, we still have her 3 sisters, but none of them were as close to me as Pearl was, and they are all old and reaching the end of their lifetimes too. Due to feeling burnt out, I'm taking an unscheduled break through the month of April and will focus on the songs for May instead. Songs might still be released through April though.
